Consumer Loan Underwriter

Location: San Jose, CA

Pay: $33.65 - $45.67 per hour

Overview

Join a growing financial institution as a Consumer Loan Underwriter responsible for evaluating and approving consumer loan applications while balancing sound credit decisions with an exceptional customer experience.

What You'll Do

• Underwrite direct and indirect consumer loan applications.
• Analyze credit, income, collateral, debt, and overall risk.
• Make loan decisions within assigned lending authority.
• Recommend exceptions and approvals outside authorization limits.
• Identify solutions that help applicants qualify when appropriate.
• Review complex loan requests and financial documentation.
• Ensure compliance with lending policies and regulatory requirements.
• Partner with lending and branch teams to support loan growth.
• Provide guidance and support to team members on underwriting decisions.
• Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and service.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of consumer loan underwriting experience.
• Experience underwriting direct and indirect consumer loans.
• Strong credit analysis and risk assessment skills.
• Experience working within a bank, credit union, or financial institution.
• Ability to analyze financial information and make sound lending decisions.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent work experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or a related field.
• Experience reviewing complex financial statements and credit profiles.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.

Schedule

• Full-Time
• Monday through Friday
• 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
• Occasional overtime as needed
